Altimira...tis a silly place

As Rene sat back and sipped his wine in the comfort of his hotel room he reflected on the most recent events in his life. He couldn't help but be struck by the oddities of the city he now inhabited.

What nagged at Rene the most from his time in Altimira was it's inhabitants utter hatred for a man named Santino. Thus far all that Rene had been able to surmise that this man had done was

1.) rip a page out of a book
2.) pay Rene and his friends on two separate occasions
3.) find a scapegoat for his product/property being damaged and flogged him publicly to make an example

Rene was puzzled that such acts would be categorized as villainy. Granted Rene was brand new to heroics, but had not worse atrocities been committed in Montaigne court in a single hour than this? Put further Rene had personally witnessed a compatriot assault and incapacitate numerous clergymen without a single question as to their crime. One man that Rene had traveled with wore this ridiculous white mask and purple cape and claimed to be hero. This same man only moments after meeting Rene sliced the tendons off of a man's ankles for stealing!! One man using the powers of sorcery, complete disregard of orders, and blatant incompetence caused flames to erupt on a captain's face!!!! If Altimira's heroes are the example of righteousness then something strange has happened to right and wrong. Had Rene not personally witnessed that Theus is indeed at 10 year old Castillian boy the reality of this city might have troubled him more (perhaps this was merely a result of this curse).

This curse had surely made Rene's way of living difficult. He had learned that he was no longer capable of lying to those who were not liars themselves. He learned that if one has committed harm to another he must make amends. Further inaction in the face of harm is wrong. These lessons were hard learned. Perhaps, Rene thought to himself, all of the "Heroes of Altimira," ought to be cursed.

An odd thought came to Rene as he poured himself another glass. The man Don Gallo. He had thus far been the most heroic person he'd met. The thought made Rene chuckle. True Don Gallo was arrogant, sometimes incompetent, but he had heart, and no silly illusions to the idea that he would solve all of life's problems. No Don Gallo did good only so that more people would know Don Gallo!!!

After a healthy laugh Rene concluded at last that although Altimira was a silly place, filled with misguided "heroes," and destructive down hill races, perhaps it was not just his curse keeping him here. Perhaps he didn't all together hate doing good, but he could never let anyone else know this. Not yet at least.

Romeo peeked down from the transom window to see that Montaigne fellow talking to himself again...in Montaigne. At least he had not stolen more candlesticks from the cathedral. Yep, looks like he may be a spy.
