Here's Nicole's character, she's spending the first 3 XP she earned for a 1 point background. I'll note that under XP spent at the end and then include the relevant section in the Backgrounds forum.

Template - DK Assasin - NOTE: Mortis School swapped for Torres, so Knife for Cloak
Name: Estrella Fernandez
Profession: Master Gunner of the Queen's Gift
Nationality: Castillian
Appearance: (Shared with Don for portrait) Estrella is caught in a moment of observation, and flexible in pose. Dark eyes miss nothing, her training as an assassin keeping her well aware of her surroundings. Her expression neutral to serious. She wears her dark hair in a loose French braid that falls to her mid-back, though is sometimes pulled over her shoulder. A sailor and the ship’s master gunner on a pirate ship has her dressed in practical, well made clothing. Clothing that would blend in well in a crowd. A long sleeved shirt, pants, belt, boots, vest or corset, a hooded cloak that would provide concealment, but currently pushed back. She’s of average height, fit, clearly a woman though not exceptionally busty. At her left hip she has a swept hilt rapier. Her hands are covered in fingerless gloves. A chain at her neck points to a necklace of some sort, but any charm or pendant is tucked away. She’s Castillian and has traditional features.

Question: is Torres in RoC sanctioned (Sword School) or not? The RoC Sword School Cheatsheet says yes, the Castille book says no.

Technically, Torres gets sanctioned in 1669. (In the Swordsman's Guild Sourcebook)

If you prefer to be a sanctioned Swordsman member, you can totally feel.free to take that INSTEAD of the free rank in a Swordsman Knack.

Personally, I would stay unsanctioned and keeping the free rank in a swordsman knack.

Ok, so remove Membership: Swordsman's Guild and add 1 dot to a knack, correct?

One of the 4 swordsman's knacks, yes.

And congrats, you found the first official change in 7th sea that I had a part in making.

Thanks, Dave! I was wondering if that was a typo in the quick start rules for the campaign. Glad to know the reason!

Yeah, there was never a logical reason for Torres to not be sanctioned. And nobody on the writing team at the time could justify keeping it out. So it was a simple fix to change it in Swordsman Guild book and just say it was newly sanctioned.
