The place for everything else.

My belief (hope) is that the pick-two-Backgrounds-and-run-with-it may be not too dissimilar to HoA's templates. Or some of the pre-gens/generics that one encounters in games at Cons. salamanca wrote: I doubt the system is too complex for players, you all are smart about exploiting stuff.
Sal: I was referring to many of the players in games that I've run over the years, not the hardcore with HoA. In any case, I've never really been interested in duels/tactical play. Certainly, my characters over the years should suggest that.

Keep in mind that I am working on what has been posted here and nothing else. It looks to me like the resolution mechanic is the same for whatever you do. Be it a swordfight, attempt to oitwit a character, sneak around, or anything else.
You make a roll and assign successes or opt to fail to do something better later. I think it will give us more options.
And this does not mean strategy intensive. It suggests the chance to do something and then make it better IF the dice are in your favor.

So, Africa will be called "Ifri" in this setting, and they have an expert to take the lead on writing (Jerry Grayson, of GODSEND Agenda, HELLAS: Worlds of Sun and Stone, and ATLANTIS: The Second Age fame).

Well, except if you are fighting brutes which has an entirely different system. I hope that brutes get some sort of rules to allow them to aid villains in normal combat.
My personal 2nd ed. 7th Sea can be found here: http://theah.sanctum.dk/#home be forewarned might be too simulationist for the weak of heart.

Actually, reading that section, in small player groups, they might be more dangerous on their own.
If the heroes each act once ( say there are 2-3 of them) and then a similar number of large brute squads act (since our logic tends to plan one per player + one for the group). Players could get torn up pretty quick if the first roll goes bad.
The solution is to rethink your numbers but it could be hairy.

It just broke the current record for most money raised for an RPG on Kickstarter...

that's ok, this is a game that nobody likes and has no fan base.
obviously, this is some sort of fluke... yeah, I've been on RPGnet recently where the hipster gamers prefer games with less fun.
Nice work and congratulations to John and the team for being awesome.
The free streamlined ruleset is a very cool and generous stretch goal.
The next goal SHOULD be "City of Adventure: Altamira!" and they can just bribe Mark into sending them all our background material.
Actually, I would enjoy a "Usual suspects" book of NPCs that fill those needed roles in every game. The honorable rival, the sniveling crony, the hooker with the heart of gold, the bumbling guard, etc.

Ok just downloaded the newly updated quickstart rules, WOW, some awesome stuff there!
Heavy weapons now use Brawn to hit Light weapons still use Finesse Ranged weapons use Wits (and if you get yourself an extra Raise, you can reload it!)
Skill levels now mean something. For instance, if you have a "3" in a skill you can re-roll one die before the GM buys Danger Points
"4" means if you can make a 15 it counts as Two Raises
AND "5" means your "10s" EXPLODE!!!!
(you can find it all on pp. 5-6 of the quickstart)

Got an email today outlining the next two stretch goals and letting us know that we're getting close to the limit of what he can reasonably get out to us in the next year and a half. Looks like after these next two, we've got a secret society book and that could be it...

You should offer to write some extra stretch goals. You know for the love of the game.

I do hope sorcery and swordsman schools become a bit more interesting in the full game.
