I didn't know what to do....

Today started off kinda bad on the way to work, had to stop for 2 funerals, and I always feel sad when I see that, so a double wammie this morning.

Then I was walking from the car parking lot to the store (we park a block away), when I happened to notice a birds nest lying in the grass by the tree in this yard. Then I saw 4 baby birdies lying all over the grass. It was raining, and they were soaking wet, but I had to get them back into the nest. So I got them in and was trying to figure out what to do. The tree they had fallen out of had some low branches and I could put the nest there, but I know the neighborhood, and I know that the cats would get it. So I was trying to figure out what would be best, when another guy from the store walked by and I showed him what happened. It was then I noticed there was a 5th baby bird by the tree. I got it into the nest also, and with the guys help got it up a bit higher than I could reach but still worried that a cat can get to it. I don't know what will happen to them, and hope that they surrive, but I don't see that they will, as the parents can't get them to a higher nest, and I know they will either surcome to the weather and shock from falling, or a neighborhood cat. I can only hope the best for them. Wish I could have taken them to a bird rescue place.

Walked by the tree on the way home. The nest was still in it, and the parents were around it, as they were aggitated that I checked. Couldn't really see the babies, so don't know how they are doing. Of the 5, if they don't get eaten by cats, I figure at lest the 2 biggest may survive, as they had the most feathers on their body, the other 3 were a bit younger and balder, so not sure how their soak in the rain this morning did for their health. along with the fall from the tree. I'll be checking on them while I still can, before my vacation starts, and will let you know what I find out.

Sad ending, but what I expected. Didn't see the parents acting up today on the way in, so on the way home I checked the nest area, and found 2 of the 5 babies back down on the ground and dead. Figured the rest were too, as one of them was the largest, and if any would have survived it would have been the one.
