Countdown to TotalCon 2018

Postby spizio » Sun Mar 05, 2017 5:04 pm

Since the close of TC 2017 there has been some criticism that the western theme was not announced until the last minute. Meaning no GMs were able to incorporate it into there events. Some felt this made the theme pointless. The organizers are taking this to heart and have started discussions about potential themes for next year on the con's Facebook page. Pirates are so far in the lead that they have started pondering how to integrate them. Now is the time for the Heroes of Altamira to strike.

It looks like Pirates won out (handily) but we were never in doubt.

So, in theory I might be able to make it. If I do, can I carpool to the con from the airport with anyone else who might be flying in?

A large majority of attendees are New England locals and will be driving in. I'm sure that there are some that fly, I'm just not sure how many.

FYI knowing where you are flying into would help. The convention center is approximately 35-40 miles from Logan airport in Boston. Approximately 60 miles from TF Green, a regional airport, in "Providence", RI. Yes nearly double the distance, but a smaller more manageable airport. Also less road traffic. Or about 55 miles from the Airport in Manchester, NH. I have heard good things about this location as a regional airport, but it is outside my local area. Will also likely help you avoid some of the Boston road traffic. Looking at the hotel website there doesn't seem to be a shuttle service.

You might want to go to the con's Facebook page. If you open your inquiry outside of HoA players you may get a better response.

Worst case scenario it does look like the MBTA, public transit, has a line that goes from Logan to Marlboro. I have no direct experience with this service or how compatible the schedules would be with the convention.

The closest stations you can use with the MBTA are the Westborough and Southborough lines of the commuter rail (HERE'Sa link to their website to figure out the times you can get there).
I know we have HoA folks in that general area (I myself pass pretty close to the Southborough stop on the way to the con) who might be able to pick you up.
We can talk about it more when we get closer to the con.

A couple of years someone who is active in the forum did use public transport to get to the old con site. Maybe they could chime in. IIRC it was Charlie.

Doubt it was Charlie, he's local enough to drive. But Mike came out from Chicago a couple of times. I bet he could talk about it (Course that was back in Mansfield).

One choice is, which character you bringing? Your old one or the new one based on the character you played for 2nd Ed.

Gyda..Now that I own the books I tweaked the character to something I would make. I used the template then used the XP I earned to finish her. I gave her a background, I'm in the process of writing it. Though not being familiar with vesten culture it may not make sense. I figure I'll look into Viking culture to round out the background. I'll be bringing the new character also. In case :)

Prereg opened briefly last night but experienced issues with PayPal. It reopened this morning. Events are already filling up.

I expect my personal agenda this year is convincing Mark to let me play the PA which is sold out. Does anyone know what the dice pool for that is?
