Tim's Character Alessandro Vesconti

Postby Tgravelle » Sun Mar 16, 2025 9:33 pm

Alessandro Vesconti was born to a poor seamstress in the shadow of the Lucani family’s estate. As a child, he ran errands for the house, weaving through the maze-like streets of Vodacce with effortless grace, a shadow among the canals and courtyards. His speed and agility caught the attention of a minor duelist in the family’s employ, who took Alessandro under his wing.

The Bernolli style, with its quicksilver footwork and deceptive feints, suited Alessandro’s natural instincts. What began as idle training turned into a calling — by the age of sixteen, Alessandro was guarding minor scions of the Lucani family, escorting them through treacherous business deals, arranged marriages, and midnight dalliances.
But Vodacce is a land of intrigue, and loyalty is often more dangerous than betrayal. Alessandro found himself guarding Gianetta Lucani, a young woman destined to marry into a rival family to seal an alliance. Alessandro and Gianetta grew close — too close. Whether it was innocent or something more, rumors spread, whispers twisted the truth, and Alessandro found himself accused of dishonoring his charge.

To protect Gianetta’s name, Alessandro accepted exile. The Lucani gave him his life — a mercy, by Vodacce standards — but stripped him of all rank and standing. Armed only with his sword, his wits, and the name Vesconti (a family name claimed from his mother’s side, with no noble lineage), Alessandro now wanders Theah, offering his sword to merchants, nobles, and anyone who can pay.

Though he pretends otherwise, Alessandro still keeps a ribbon given to him by Gianetta tied to his sword’s hilt — a reminder of the price of honor, and the dangers of love in Vodacce.

The Vodacce Shadow in Avalon

Alessandro Vesconti never expected to see the shores of Avalon. Vodacce men like him — lowborn, trained to kill for noble whims — rarely left the borders of their homeland. But exile has a way of tearing up expectations, and Alessandro has always been quick to adapt.

After fleeing Vodacce under the cloud of scandal, Alessandro drifted from Castille to Montaigne, hiring out his blade to merchants too rich for their own good and nobles too foolish to survive without protection. In Montaigne, his skill with the sword — fluid, graceful, and deceptively fast — caught the eye of a merchant captain bound for Avalon, who needed a man comfortable with duels, dirty work, and courtly charm.

Alessandro took the offer, and Avalon offered a curious freedom: a land where cunning and flair could open doors even a Vodacce exile thought forever closed. In the rough alleys of Carleon and the misty streets of Luthon, Alessandro earned a reputation as a foreign swordsman with a sharp tongue, quicker blade, and an air of tragic romance that Avalon’s poets and tavern girls found irresistible.

But Avalon is no gentler than Vodacce. The nobility scheme behind closed doors, and Alessandro’s foreign birth and Vodacce training make him a useful tool — and a disposable one.

Alessandro plays the game of Avalon politics carefully, balancing his survival on the edge of his blade and the curve of his smile. He’s a hired sword, reluctant hero, and exiled romantic, haunted by the past he left behind and the danger that may yet follow him across the sea.

The Shadow Finds Canguine
Exile teaches a man many things. Chief among them is how to follow the scent of opportunity, even when it stinks of cheap rum, rotting wood, and broken promises. When Alessandro Vesconti first heard whispers of Canguine, he thought it was just another Avalonian tall tale — a pirate city built atop its own bad decisions, cursed by a Sidhe for its spectacular rudeness.

He laughed — then booked passage the next day.

Because Canguine isn’t just a nest of thieves and killers. It’s a place where no one asks questions about your past as long as you can pay your tab and draw your sword faster than the next drunk bastard looking for a fight. And for a Vodacce swordsman with a reputation that clings like perfume, no questions can be worth more than gold.

His Reasons for Coming to Canguine

On the surface, Alessandro claims he’s in Canguine to broker a deal between a Montaigne merchant prince and an Avalonian smuggler — a job that requires both charm and steel, two things he carries with him always.
But that’s not the whole truth.

Rumor has reached Alessandro’s ear that a certain Vodacce Fate Witch — one with ties to his exiled past — was recently seen in Canguine’s markets, buying up rare Montaigne alchemical supplies and asking too many questions about the Lucani family.

Whether she’s hunting him, or just chasing her own doomed fate, Alessandro can’t say — but he’s not leaving without answers. Even if that means walking straight into a pirate’s trap, a Sidhe’s curse, or the blade of a Sea Dog who doesn’t take kindly to foreign swordsmen stirring Avalonian waters.

I like the story. It makes sense and explains all your backgrounds while still leaving room for you to add stories.

The character is at 150 points because Inspirational is a Virtue. You just just need to switch it out for a Hubris. :)

Thank you for noticing my mistake. I have corrected it by taking overconfident instead. Mark I am excited to join the new campaign I plan on doing adventure 1 + 2 as well as personal agenda at OGC.

Also my sword has a story but I need to edit it first. I will have lots of fun playing this new campaign from the beginning.

The story of his weapon

Alessandro’s fencing sabre is a masterwork of Vodacce craftsmanship — a blade that reflects both his elegance and his flamboyant nature.

The Blade:
• The steel is darkened with a faint bluish sheen, achieved through a specialized Vodacce forging process that not only strengthens the metal but also grants it a distinctive, almost midnight hue. This gives the blade a shadowy, elusive quality — perfect for a swordsman who thrives on cunning and misdirection.
• The blade itself is slender and slightly longer than average, emphasizing precision and reach. Its fuller (the central groove) is etched with delicate filigree in the shape of intertwining serpents — a symbol of Vodacce’s web of intrigue.

The Guard:
• The hilt features a basket guard of twisted silver and darkened steel, forming a swirling pattern that resembles tangled vines. The metal curves in elegant spirals, designed both to protect the hand and to dazzle opponents with its intricate design.
• A small, polished ruby is set in the base of the guard — a mark of the blade’s masterwork quality and a reminder of Alessandro’s once-proud status.

The Grip:
• The grip is wrapped in black leather, tightly corded with silver wire. The leather is worn smooth from years of practice, fitting Alessandro’s hand like a glove.
• The pommel is sculpted in the shape of a coiled serpent biting its own tail — a Vodacce symbol of eternity, fate, and the cyclical nature of betrayal and redemption.

The Scabbard:
• The scabbard is constructed of dark, polished wood reinforced with brass fittings. Subtle scrollwork runs along its length, whispering of Vodacce artistry.
• A crimson silk ribbon is tied just below the throat of the scabbard — a faded remnant from Gianetta, once given as a token of favor. Alessandro has kept it hidden beneath the folds of his coat, a reminder of what he lost.

Overall Design and Fighting Style:
The sword is beautifully balanced for finesse and speed — a duelist’s weapon, favoring precise thrusts, feints, and sudden ripostes. In Alessandro’s hands, the blade becomes an extension of his personality — sharp, stylish, and dangerously unpredictable.

The Serpent’s Embrace — The Legend of Alessandro’s Sword
Alessandro’s blade — with its darkened steel, serpent filigree, and ruby-set guard — carries a story woven from both Vodacce’s ruthless politics and his forbidden love for Gianetta.

The Blade’s Origin: The Serpent and the Spider
The sword was forged by Orso Tagliabeni, one of Vodacce’s most elusive and sought-after swordsmiths. Tagliabeni was known for crafting blades only for those embroiled in Vodacce’s tangled web of intrigue — a master who believed that a weapon should reflect the soul of its wielder. He called this particular sword L’Abbraccio del Serpente — The Serpent’s Embrace.

According to legend, Tagliabeni crafted the blade for Don Matteo Villanova, a cunning Vodacce noble who wished to eliminate a rival through deception and subterfuge. Matteo succeeded in eliminating the rival. The weapon became a whispered symbol of Vodacce’s tangled passions — betrayal and devotion entwined like the serpent filigree wrapped around its hilt.

Years later, the sword lay locked in the vaults of Don Luciano Lucani, patriarch of the Lucani family. He had taken it as a spoil from Villanova during a particularly bloody political maneuver — the kind of act that made Vodacce noblemen both feared and despised.

How Alessandro Came to Possess the Blade
Alessandro’s acquisition of the sword ties directly to his tragic romance with Gianetta. While serving as her bodyguard, Alessandro earned the ire of Don Luciano Lucani, Gianetta’s father. Don Luciano — a man steeped in Vodacce power plays — manipulated a rival swordsman into challenging Alessandro to a duel.

The rival, known as Giovanni Basile, was undefeated and infamous for using dishonorable tricks. Alessandro was told to expect no mercy. The night before the duel, Gianetta secretly visited Alessandro and presented him with The Serpent’s Embrace — a family heirloom she had stolen from her father’s vault.

“I cannot fight this duel for you,” she whispered, but I will not let you face it unarmed.”

Alessandro accepted the gift — and won the duel with a deft riposte that disarmed Basile without taking his life. But his victory only fueled Don Luciano’s wrath. It was that very night when Alessandro’s love for Gianetta was discovered — and his exile from Vodacce soon followed. He kept The Serpent’s Embrace as a reminder of both his victory and his greatest failure — a symbol of the love he could not keep.

In Avalon, rumors of The Serpent’s Embrace have begun to spread once again. Some believe the sword is enchanted; others whisper that Alessandro’s luck cannot last forever. Only one thing is certain: when Alessandro draws his blade, fate itself seems to hold its breath.

The Sword’s Symbolism
• The Serpent Filigree reflects Vodacce’s twisted web of politics — where no move is simple, and betrayal is inevitable.
• The Ruby in the Guard represents the blood that Alessandro has shed — and the heart that still belongs to Gianetta.
• The Coiled Serpent Pommel embodies Alessandro’s dual nature — a man caught between retreat and defiance, forever circling the choices he cannot escape.
