I have recovered enough to give my summary...
The Good
As usual (and for always) you all. You are the reason we do this, the delight I see in your faces are the fuel that drives me. In addition to getting to see some faces I haven’t in a while, I also got three folks who traveled a bit to get there. I am always honored that you think this is worth all that time and effort (or maybe you’re just addicted to XP, I am really not sure).
The wonderful compliment I got from Mark and his daughter Penelope. It wasn’t the first time someone told me that GoSM runs the gold standard of games, but I am both heartened and surprised to hear that every time someone tells me. Thank you so much. In addition, I learned that you both had the same reaction to finding a great campaign that I have (which is to say, I used to go to cons, pick a couple of random games to try out and then see where things went. BUT if I found something I really liked, I’d dump the rest of the games to fill up on that one thing I really liked). So when you told me you’d done that when you first found us, I knew exactly what it meant. So again, thank you.
The New folks. We had quite a few for a local con in NH. And many of you showed up to the PA in your very first time at winged mouse. Wow, that is really commitment! I may have to start considering whether to add a second PA timeslot at OGC…
The Saturday afternoon game. This is the one I run for Lisa and her friends. And I always want it to go off just right. This was the first time I ever did a sequel to an earlier adventure, so I wasn’t sure it was going to go off correctly. I should not have been worried. While we only got half way through the adventure, I discovered something. This is now less about making sure we can get all the way through a game, and more of an “old friends getting together to just play.” So now we are just going to play for four hours and stop when we need to. My only disappointment is having to wait until next year to play again.
The VIP treatment. This happens every year at OGC they always find me a special room I get to play in by myself. BUT this year had the added bonus of getting a new designation on tabletop.events. We’re now not just games but you can find us under “Organized Play – The Rogues of Canguine.” So cool.
On a personal note, I have been trying to lose weight, and have a calorie counter to try and keep myself on the straight and narrow. I was going to skip dinner on Sat (because I had eaten half a pizza for lunch, see below), BUT then Megan said they were going to order from 5 Guys and I love 5 Guys. So I went over for the day. Despite that, however, I still managed to lose my one pound for the week!!! (which puts me below 230 YAY!!!)
The Bad
Nothing, not a single thing. Everything went off well. Food was great (found a place that had real high ratings on Find Me Gluten Free) so I got both Hawaiian pizza and BBQ Chicken pizza (different days)
A Bit of Both
Ok like usual, these are somewhat quibbling, but I think they fit.
Having to leave Saturday night. I would love to be able to stay and run on Sunday too, but my youngest just turned 18 (so no kiddos in the house anymore). So it was sad to have to go but it also would have been unthinkable not to.
Speaking of the drive, while it was nice to have a quiet drive back, it also started at 1:30 am, so I did not get home till around 3am. And then the dog woke me up at precisely daybreak. So yea, old man got just 4 hours of sleep.
Legendary Wares. These are the folks who make the most beautiful dice bags (my main one is from them) they all have interior pockets along with everything else. Of late they’ve been adding Japanese print dice bags (and I should note I have long had a hankering to try L5R because I am fascinated by the warring stats period of Japanese history). Not only are they Japanese prints, but they’re actually cloth imported from Japan. So needless to say, they’re gorgeous. I already have 3 prints from them, but they just added another five AND have started work on a sixth. So I came home a lot poorer because I have five new dice bags.
